From the sound of it, most likely at some time yesterday, you were knocked unconscious and your armor fell off of you and you were revived on the spot. In such a case, you must pick up any items that fell, or else they will eventually vanish. Sadly, in the heat of battle, it's easy to overlook even the most obvious equips that drop off you.
As you know, items may be in the L&F when you lose them. But not everything goes there. If you're in a dungeon or SM and don't pick them up before you leave, you lose them forever. If you are in the field and don't pick them up after a certain amount of time (varies based on NPC resale value), they also vanish for good.
I know it's a pain, and it happens to most everyone eventually at some point in time. You just have to keep your stuff blessed and pay very close attention to the most valuable things when fighting monsters or else only wear what you can afford to lose. I hate to say it, but if your armor is gone, it's gone for good.
